Why we started these workshops

Focus Point Media began with a straightforward observation: digital banking tools were improving rapidly, but many seniors had no structured way to learn them safely.

A gap that needed closing

The shift to digital banking happened quickly. Within a few years, most Croatian banks reduced branch hours, introduced online-only services, and redesigned their interfaces around smartphone use. For younger customers, this was mostly welcome. For many seniors, it created a new kind of exclusion.

Not a lack of intelligence or willingness. A lack of opportunity. Nobody had sat with them and explained, step by step, how the applications actually work. What the error messages mean. What to do when something unexpected happens. The knowledge existed somewhere, but not in a form that was accessible to them.

Focus Point Media was established to provide exactly that. Structured, patient, practical education delivered where people already spend time: in their local library, in their retirement home's common room, in a familiar community space.

How we think about teaching

The format of our workshops reflects specific choices about how adults learn, particularly adults who may have had little contact with digital technology before.

Patience first

No question is too basic. Trainers are selected for their ability to explain things clearly without making participants feel rushed or judged. The pace is set by the group, not a schedule.

Practical from the start

Every session involves hands-on practice on real devices. Theory is kept minimal. Participants leave having actually done the things they came to learn, not just watched someone else do them.

Safety as foundation

Every topic is framed around what is safe. Participants learn not just how to use digital banking, but how to recognize when something is wrong and what steps to take.

Open to return

Learning takes time. Participants who want to attend a second or third session are welcome. The printed materials they receive are designed to support independent practice between sessions.

Digital inclusion is a practical matter

We do not believe digital literacy is a luxury or a technical skill reserved for younger generations. Being able to check your bank balance, pay a bill, or spot a scam email affects financial security and daily independence.

The programme is free because financial barriers should not determine who gets to learn. The workshops travel to where people are because transportation barriers should not either.

Focus Point Media collaborates with public libraries, retirement facility managers, and community organizations to reach as many participants as possible. If you represent an organization that serves seniors, we welcome a conversation about hosting a session.
